  • From a romantic and a literature lover, this is a fairy tale brought to the screen, dont ignore it...

    [Highly rated reviewer]

Possibly one of the most underrated and lesser appreciated classical novels made up for a movie, it is a classic work with both only fantastically beautiful scenery and costume but the story is that of a fantastic love. It has all the elements a love story requires, test of strength, strong characters, rivals in love, action, adventure and an ending that will win your heart. Lorna Doone is one of the all time great romances, written by Blackmore more than a century ago, it still has the ability to win the heart with its story. A fairy tale brought to screen, it should not be missed.

quite good, very long, a bit amaturish drama, but enjoyable. actors quite good, but i found they characters didnt really suit each other, and it didnt have the broodiness that wuthering heights has.

  • A Good Period Drama

    Rated - 3.5 stars

If it is a period drama that you want, then please have a go at this. Although not the best that the BBC has produced lately, it was worth a watch as the setting and costumes were believeable for the period.

I have to say that it was a little drawn out at times therefore must agree with some of the comments made by previous reviewers ... but having said this, the cast gelled well and this version of Lorna Doone is definately worth watching.

A bit corny with some poor acting but the Lorna Doone story came through which saved my husband hours of trying to read the old-fashioned writing.

  • Badly acted

    Rated - 1.5 stars

The story is a good one and ticks all the boxes for me as a period drama fan - my problem is the acting was so dire that I just wanted to turn it off, especially the actress who plays Lorna. She looks the part fair enough but no where near convincing in the role. Ruined what could have been a blinder.

Fell asleep before the first part ended. Haven't seen such a plotless film for some time!
