From a romantic and a literature lover, this is a fairy tale brought to the screen, dont ignore it...

Possibly one of the most underrated and lesser appreciated classical novels made up for a movie, it is a classic work with both only fantastically beautiful scenery and costume but the story is that of a fantastic love. It has all the elements a love story requires, test of strength, strong characters, rivals in love, action, adventure and an ending that will win your heart. Lorna Doone is one of the all time great romances, written by Blackmore more than a century ago, it still has the ability to win the heart with its story. A fairy tale brought to screen, it should not be missed.

    Entertaining

An entertaining adaptation. Acting was excellently done. Richard Coyle was suitably heroic and Carver suitably evil and thwarted. Well worth watching!

    Not that great

Fabulous scenery, but it felt very dated and the acting was quite dreadful in parts. I know teatime TV suffers restricted budgets by comparison with major drama series like Cranford, but even so, was it necessary to make the girl with glasses quite so modern in her dress and attitudes. Disappointing.

    Dis-appointing

This is a great story and I was looking forward to the BBC version but uninspired casting and wooden acting meant I did not even bother to watch the second half of the film.

    An Excellent Film.

The best production of this everlasting popular story I've ever seen.

Lasting two and a half hours it has time to really develop the characters. There's plenty of familiar faces but they are all believable.

The scenery and settings are also fantastic.

    One for the girls

I had read the book as a younster, but must say how much I enjoyed the film. Everthing in the film was top notch and the cornish coast scernery was breath takng. I don't think this would appeal so much to the ladds as the girls, though there are some battle scenes

    Period Heaven

Although long, I really enjoyed this film. I am a big fan of period costume dramas and wish more were made and shown on the tv.

I originally watched this version of Lorana Doone when it was first show on tv. Although not as well known as Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice, after watching it again on dvd I realised how much of the story I had forgotten. Therefore it is well worth watching again!!
