TBH, This was probably a sensation in its time but unfortunately time has indeed moved on and left titles like this for the 'Hardcore' Meyer fans. I personally would not recommend this title as I appreciate Russ's later works but could not get into this one at all.
The first of these two early works from the great Russ Meyer, 'Lorna', really isn't very good. Even his most dedicated fans - of which I count myself one - should be hard-pushed to find too much amusement in its very pedestrian tale of an unsatisfied woman who would rather spend time in bed with an escaped convict than with the man who loves her a little too dearly - and not roughly enough. It's a thin, thin tale, which Russ pads out rather too obviously - although regular writer James Griffith makes an impression as the Man of God.
Hal Hopper is the chief sleaze in 'Lorna' and he turns up again, even larger than life, in 'Mudhoney', which is one of the occasional times in Meyer's career when he appeared to be trying something serious. A Depression-era drama about an ex-con drifting into town and falling in love with Hopper's frequently beaten wife, thereby complicating Hopper's plans to get his hands on some loot. A very well-made stew of Deep South cliches, right down to the fat sheriff and the climactic lynch mob - an eye-opener for those who think Russ only makes tits'n'ass movies (although there's a little of that, too).
