This big-budget screen version of Irwin Allen's cult 1960s TV series is a charmless if flashy affair under the too-straightforward direction of Stephen Hopkins. The Robinson family's Earth migration experiment is sabotaged by evil Doctor Smith (Gary Oldman) and they are forced to land on a mysterious planet where time becomes distorted and where they encounter mutated monster spiders. Trying to be all things to all audiences results in the children's stuff (the lovable space monkey) annoying adults, while the family values sermons will bore the kids rigid. The special effects, the nostalgia, the varying tone and the acting (although Matt LeBlanc is an honourable exception) never jell into an enjoyable whole in what is basically a cynical marketing exercise.
Yet another doomed attempt to transfer a creaking 60s TV series to the big screen; its makers might have found a better script than the tired specimen on offer.

Right this film is an absolute shocker. I have watched the tv series and it was far better than this. There is no real plot and the acting is awful. Matt le Blance, my god is he bad in this, Heather Graham; if she wasn't so hot then she wouldn't be in the film and finally Garry Oldman, my god why did you agree to do this. Terrible film, bad acting, bad story, bad film.
Come on guys! It really isn't that bad a film. In fact i really quite like this one. I remeber watching at the flicks and thinking , ermm yes not too bad! Not sure why everyone slags of the acting - it's a action movie for god shake- what do you expect!
Please let's see lost in space 2. What happens once they get to alfa prime, and what about the DR????
Watch the film and enjoy !
It misses on every point it should have hit and Matt Leblanc's acting is so wooden it's awful. Did they put the youngest Robinson sister on helium, as she doesn't sound at all like her film voice in interviews?
The 'making of' really explains what went wrong, as it appears that much of the movie didn't get finished in time and the story got so muddled that by the end you wonder did they write it as they went along? A real shame.

I think this is the worst acting I have seen in a long time.... There is no plot...the title is about as deep as the plot is developed! The story is not even slightly believable and completely beyond any scientific grounding or understanding. The acting again...is shockingly bad. I am beginning to think that Matt Le Blanc hit a lucky one off with friends... and with the character Joey. He is equally terrible in this film as his fellow co-actors. It is not worth a rent and spews disgusting amounts of American cheese...I don't know what the writers were thinking. Not even worth enquiring!

How haven't I seen this before now? Must have been on TV by this stage?
Anyway, no idea what to expect from this, although I seem to recall it getting panned when it was released. Well, fear not. I enjoyed this little space swash buckler. Okay, so the storyline/plot is thinner than rice paper but that doesn't detract from the fact that this film is just a piece of childish escapism. If it's some mindless visuals and a bit of adventure you're after, this is the film. If it's some deep thinking, then forget it. Well worth a view if you can let your inner child free for an hour or so.
Rhino rating - The one with the spaceman.
YOU MUST GET THIS GREAT VISUALS PITTY THERE WILL NEVER BE ANY SEQUELS
A quirky little jaunt through space with the Robinson family. Not really required watching but a good little film for those nights in
Fairly good, but lacks the humour I would have expected from "Joey" and very much a fantasy style film since quite a lot of what happens is far beyond any basis in reality or logic. Nevertheless, some worthwhile moments in this film and some astonishing special effects in places.
The title of this review says it all. It's a terrible movie and it's so bad it borders on GENIUS! I remember Eddie Izzard talking about fashion once in that it's all circular. You're looking cool, looking cool, looking cool and you've gone that far round that all of a sudden you're looking like a dickhead. This movie does that. It's bad, it's bad, it's terrible, IT'S GREAT!!
Very good, almost same as the series in parts, loads of action .Well open for sequels
