LOST was only intended to be a one off series, but due to huge poplularity and high ratings ( deserved at the time - it was good ) producers decided to keep it going as long as possible.
Unfortunately this meant the witers - by their own admission didnt know where they were going with the story and just made it up as they went along. The result being during series 2 the plot became ever more complex and bizzare and the hope that the viewer may have of had of finding any satisfactory answers asked during series 1 diminished.
Please don't judge this show solely on luke1984's review.
LOST is a show of mystery, intrigue, drama, but best of all, it is truly beautiful. Scenes are put together with brilliant emotional acting, shot with just the right angles and filled with magnificently well timed and made music.
I don't know whether or not it's true that the producers only had one season in mind (I doubt it though), but it nonetheless has an amazing story. It's anti-linear and keeps you asking questions. If you watch one episode a week, sure it may become confusing, but rent the disc and everything makes sense. The story draws you in enough, that although things are bizarre, you know that there will be answers.
In fact one of the downers of the latest season (season 5) is that many of the questions have become answered, thus some of that feeling of LOST is lost. (However still a great season nonetheless)
