I too bought this on region 1 from america and it is good, but not that good. I honestly dont think they know where they are going with the plot. I think most will be made up as they go along. The region 1 release was the complete series for about £32.00. Yet they release the region 2 version in two halves each costing about £28.00, (do the maths). We should not stand by and get ripped of like this. Rent the series first and if you enjoy enough buy the complete 24 episodes on region 1.
The problem with these stories is that the whole story is not written with a start AND an end. So to the cutomer from Hull , watch the extra disc with the interviews and then you will understand that it is made up as it goes along. Dont get me wrong I am a fan and I am enjoying the story so far. But from experience I feel I will be let down by the desire to make the thing last as long as say the X files. Ultimately they lose the plot along the road at some point. For example spielberg's Band of brothers was ten episodes, written with a start and an end. Taken was the same. When you look at Lost, they do not even know what is beneath the hatch until it gets written for season 2. I just wish that they would say this story is 3 seasons long , written with a start and end. Instead they try to bleed the story to death.
Only seen the first 3 episodes on TV, but the tv 'breaks' are driving me nuts! It somehow reminds me of 24 and thats not a bad thing. Everyone has a story here that you can't wait to see unfold. It's much, much more than a bunch of people on a desert island. Enjoy!
LOST became one of the most popular and critically acclaimed programs of the 2004-2005 season. Utilizing a ripe premise and well-drawn and acted characters, LOST attracted a huge following and was proclaimed the saving grace of a television year otherwise marred by derivative reality programming. The story concerns the survivors of a terrible plane crash, who find themselves stranded on a tropical island with seemingly little chance of a rescue. Medical doctor Jack takes a position of leadership, helping to rally the survivors and prepare them for a period of difficulty as they learn how to survive on the paradisiacal island. But everything is not as it seems, as the island offers potential danger in the form of a large, mysterious creature, and evidence is found that the plane crash may not have been an accident. As they struggle to survive, each of the characters forms alliances and makes enemies, all while dealing with the unresolved issues of the lives they've left behind. LOST distills the difficulties of society down to their essence, exploring these problems with compelling characters and with a setting that's equal parts paradise and mystery.
i have just finsihed watching the whole of series 1 - and oh.my.god is all i can say without giving anything away. JJ abrams is like my TV god at the moment, what with Lost and Alias. Loving his work. i want to be lost on an island with Josh Hollaway (Sawyer) yummy!!!

Thank you to who ever came up with the idea for Postal DVD rental. Because there is no way i'm buying a Season 1 - Part 1 DVD box set. Least with DVD rental i can watch Lost again at a later date for a faction of the price. Anyways the thing about Lost is it came out of the blue for me, there wasn't much promotion for it. So i've found that alot of people like me thought this was going to be a short series based on the plot. So i became obsessed with it. Now that i know it's going to be a long series, i'm gonna wait for the future DVD releases. Far better than annoying adverts and having to wait seven days for the next clue. So if you haven't seen it yet and you like mystery, fate, character links, polar bears, whispering vioces and plot clues that dangle on the end of a stick like a carrot and a donkey, then renting the DVD is the best way to watch Lost.
Initially this series seemed quite good but after a while it became apparent to me that the espisode writers were just making it up as they went along. There's talk of them stretching Lost out into 6 series. Every episode adds more mystery without answering any questions. This, I believe, is to keep people tuned in and thus create more advertising revenue for the TV stations.
If you don't mind watching hours of a story that never goes anywhere then Lost is for you. If not then steer clear.
Managed to pick up the full season DVD when on holiday in US, and spent 4 solid days watching lost glued to my seat to fond out what will happen to them..
HOWEVER - I could only feel let down by the last episode in this series, it builds you up throughout the whole of the seers (don't get me wrong exciting viewing) just to let you down on the last episode which offers very little of an explanation to what happens to these, cant say anymore without giving too much away.
Remember this is a series with lots of differnt seasons (well at least 2 already made, although exciting viewing i cant help but wonder how many seasons there will be in this saga of a drawn out series.
When I first rented this series I was not sure whether it could live up to the hipe surrounding it, but let me assure you it does. This is a programme that grips you from the start, one of this most interesting stories that I have watched. The characters are great, and throughtout there time on the island their lives before they become stranded is told in flashback. It has more twists and turns than a hitchcock film, watch it you will not be disappointed.
Wow. I'm at episode 14 of this series now and am utterly hooked on this program but to think that around episode 2 I turned it off aggrivated at the thought of monsters abducting stricken survivors in the forest! I became angry but gave it another go and fast got entangled in the gripping characters and their background flashback stories.
Each week on tv left me wanting more as it's like an hours worth of exciting adventure and mystery roled into one with the interesting scenarios played out each episode. At times I can see why people would say it's got no direction, but that's because you are usually focussing on a few charaters each episode, you get the entertainment of finding out more about them, the shock sides of their personality and then you move onto someone else next week. This means it is going to take a long time to generate character raport but you'll get it by the truck load in the end!!
Great viewing, the most interesting and exciting series I've ever seen...and the lead lady Kate is very pleasing on the eye ;)
after hearing all the hype lost created i thought Lost was going to be great, but i found it overall draged on for too long with too little story. maybe it willl improve the longer you watch but after 4hours id rather give up.
This is a real one to watch some people say its a little drown out or that the plot isn't really heading anywhere, well I choose not to listen to them people. What the creators have put together is amazing, I must admit in the beginning the story and plot is slow but thats life when youre living on a sandy beach.
These episodes are mealy about Mysteries of the unknown, survival, human curiosity, and character development. Dont forget before this crash very few of the people actually had connections with one another so these early episodes are about the charters creating bones both between themselves and us the audience. But while all this is going on weird and wonderful things happen and in time you do begin to see a plot emerge from the wreckage. But ill have you warned what comes out of this gets you more and more intriguing as time goes on and by the 24th episode you find just self-wanting more and more.
So my opinion is stick with it and you wont be disappointed its a great series with much more than just a straight plot to keep you interested.
By the way if you find that episode 24 leaves you gagging for more then dont worry things really start hotting up with season 2.
- Enjoy.
