This is like an anthology of the gentle, innocent zaniness of 'Antoine Doisnel', Truffaut's composite character who is always rushing from one misfortune to another, well-meaning, charming, and usually doomed to disappointment. As the 'Extra' discussion with the actress Marie-France Pisier explains, the making of the film, with much of the sophisticated dialogue unscripted, is boldly original, with flash-backs and snippets from earlier films , changes from colour to black and white, never incoherent.
