This series simultaneously follows the totally separate lives of two thirty-somethings as they each search for a soul mate, or rather despair of ever finding one. The big joke of the series is that they are clearly each others perfect partner - but will they ever meet?
David Renwicks script is beautifully written; witty without being clever-dick, cynical without being ranting, but above all superbly funny. If you know One Foot in the Grave (also by Renwick) you will be familiar with the style but this is in some ways more appealing as it lacks the unending negativism of Victor Meldrew.
Tamsin Greig is excellent in the female lead, whimsically wondering if she is the only sane person in a mad world. According to David Renwick, the character is based on his own wife.
This BBC comedy mini series was shown a couple of months ago. Probably more for the girls, this is a gentle comedy about two 30 somethings who never meet but are seemingly meant for each other. It plot revolves around their individual disastrous love lives. Alison works at a cosmetic counter, Gil is a comedy writer. Alisons story-line is a lot funnier Gils, but this is still refreshingly clever compared to the usual.
