Original and entertaining comedy drama
By John Smith from Southampton , 30 Nov 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
This series simultaneously follows the totally separate lives of two thirty-somethings as they each search for a soul mate, or rather despair of ever finding one. The big joke of the series is that they are clearly each others perfect partner - but will they ever meet?
David Renwicks script is beautifully written; witty without being clever-dick, cynical without being ranting, but above all superbly funny. If you know One Foot in the Grave (also by Renwick) you will be familiar with the style but this is in some ways more appealing as it lacks the unending negativism of Victor Meldrew.
Tamsin Greig is excellent in the female lead, whimsically wondering if she is the only sane person in a mad world. According to David Renwick, the character is based on his own wife.- Was this review helpful to you?

Love Soup
By a customer from WINSLEY , 19 Nov 2008As an avid listener to The Archers, I was curious to see Tamsin Greig and how she appeared in a completely different situ. I thought she 'travelled' very well indeed and for that reason I chose to rent Black Books. I was pleased to see that she is easily swayed by the odd bottle of wine - when stressed - and not averse to a bit os temper when things were not going too well. I hope she goes on trying different things.- Was this review helpful to you?

Tamsin fan
By bfaulk44 (53 reviews) from Bridgwater , 30 Sep 2008I am an unashamed fan of the talent of Tamsin Greig. Ever since I saw her on TV in the transmitted episodes of Love Soup and discovered that she played Debbie in The Archers on BBC Radio 4. Not forgetting the brilliant Black Books, I have been smitten. This is one lady I would definitely cross the road to see. I don't say that lightly.- Was this review helpful to you?
