    Original and entertaining comedy drama

This series simultaneously follows the totally separate lives of two thirty-somethings as they each search for a soul mate, or rather despair of ever finding one. The big joke of the series is that they are clearly each other’s perfect partner - but will they ever meet?

David Renwick’s script is beautifully written; witty without being clever-dick, cynical without being ranting, but above all superbly funny. If you know One Foot in the Grave (also by Renwick) you will be familiar with the style but this is in some ways more appealing as it lacks the unending negativism of Victor Meldrew.

Tamsin Greig is excellent in the female lead, whimsically wondering if she is the only sane person in a mad world. According to David Renwick, the character is based on his own wife.

    Love Soup *****************************

I only saw the first and the very last episode of this series and am so glad that I hired the DVD and watched the complete series, especially good in one go too. This is British TV at its absolute best. Can't wait for the second series - not sure if there will be one but the ending leaves it open. Can't wait. All the actors in it are brilliant - very well casted.
