I never thought I would say this but...By RainbowJoBirko (123 reviews) from Derbyshire, England , 30 Dec 2010
[Highly rated reviewer]Having seen this at a preview today I really enjoyed the film, at first I thought it was just another rom-com but I was wrong! There is actually a really touching story running alongside the main story!
It wasn't until half way through I realized that it is set late 80s- early 90s, Jake Gyllenhaal was great and gorgeous as ever, it was nice to see him in more of a Romeo role to his more quirky roles he usually plays, Anne Hathaway was absolutely brilliant, capturing some real emotion and looking beautiful as ever! The storyline is great, the only thing I would say which I never thought I would say is there is a bit too much sex in the film, not the best thing to see when sat next to your mum!

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideI cant get my head around who Anne Hathaway was trying to portray in this, her character was hard to believe, there was some parts that resembled Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman -''don't tickle me'' then the loud fake laugh, (although Julia was a love-able character) and the endless talking, and with a mouth full of food, and the constant judgmental characterization of every man in general and know-it-all opinion and i'm not going to fall in love with you attitude, plus trying to be a sexy siren, really sucks!! It was painful to watch, I also left the room on many occasions thinking when is this going to get better?? especially as Jake was acting so mesmerized by it all.. The only funny scene was when Jake was punched in the private's, and Anne Hathaway turning up naked and falling on the floor with embarrassment...Heard it before, and has been played better..: (
It's lovely, dive in!By sammcgregor (10 reviews) from Hove , 05 Sep 2013
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideThis is a delightful romantic comedy; albeit from his perspective, this is no chick-click! Hathaway and Gyllenhaal are lovely to watch, very believable characters and the combination of sex, love and medicine worked well. It's not a serious movie; the sex is just enough to be sassy, the brother just enough to add comedy and the references to pharmaceutical industry just enough to provide background. The story is solid love story; how 2 people unwind their armour, fall in love and become better people because of each other (or least he does). It's a romcom - it's not reality!!! - but the terminal illness has a just enough realism to keep it earth bound without interfering with the fantasy too much. Curl up with someone you love romantically and have a secret night when the days shorten
Can't make up its mind what it isBy mj55 (171 reviews) , 19 Jun 2013Is this a rom-com? A humourous look at Big Pharma? The life and times of a natural salesman who can lay any girl he wants? Unfortunately it's all of these things. Occasionally funny, occasionally poignant, occasionally jealousy inducing. I got bored and put it on pause a few times whilst I wandered off to do something else. The end, when it came, was a relief. More miss than hit.
a great filmBy kingsacre (16 reviews) , 05 Jun 2013What a little gem this film is i thought the characters were brilliantly played and to watch their love story unfolding and becoming something so meaningful was deeply touching. I would recommend this film to men and women.
Not Quite A Sleeping PillBy stevenw05 (49 reviews) , 23 Apr 2013Not being a big fan of Hathaway i was fearing the worst but by the end it was a lot better than expected. A film you will either lover or hate a black comedy which will make you chuckle and weep in equal doses.
