Sixteen year old Lucas is more interested in the wonders of science and the beauty of insects than football and parties. His problems begin when he falls in love with a pretty cheerleader during the summer, but when school begins again she completely forgets him. Read more

Whatever happened to Corey Haim? The former teen star ended up in straight-to-video fodder, which seems such a travesty in light of his excellent performance in this sweet, simple and cliché-free study of first love. As Lucas, the serious kid whom half the school wouldn't notice unless they tripped over him, he is warm, witty and wise beyond his years, and his earnest conversations with heart's desire Kerri Green are small masterpieces of observation. But true love can never run smoothly, especially when there are sporty bozos like school football star Charlie Sheen bestriding the primrose path. Winona Ryder made her debut (as one of Lucas's schoolfriends) in this delightful comedy from writer/director David Seltzer, which should not be missed.
Refreshing teen movie that takes the side of the dweebs. Lucas (Haim) is an awkward 13-year-old, more Adrian Mole than... read more on Time Out
A good all round family film.Suitable for all ages.A typical 1st love story set around a school baseball team.A good story line with no nasty shocks.Would probably be to tame for the teenager of today.
This film is one of Corey Haims earliest roles (7th movie) before making a big name for himself in the 'Lost Boys'.
Haim plays 'Lucas', a young 14 year old who falls in lust with a 16 year old girl during the summer holidays. He is against all materialistic things and has a passionate dislike for Cheerleading and American Football. A bit of a geek with a good heart Lucas tries to impress the girl of his dreams but not everything runs smoothly in love.
A heart warming tale that will make you think twice about that one shy quiet guy in the big glasses that never has a lot to say! Every school has one! I recommend this move to any Corey Haim fan.
We gave up on this when it proved to be a soppy teen flick. Maybe its because we are both over 60, but we do enjoy films that take us back to earlier times. This one though was too heavy on sex and bad language early on, and it was a turnoff.

First saw this movie when I was the lead characters age and related so well. Pulls @ the heart strings.
Also good for spotting a future 'shoplifter' and young Charlie Sheen!
I last watched this film on VHS when it came out but it is still absolutely lovely - deserves far more recognition than it gets.
this movie is not worth renting, plain and simple. the acting is bad, fair enough corey is young but the story doesnt help either. he forms a friendship with a girl over summer and then school starts. he realises its more than that and then she falls in love with charlie sheen. and thats it, nothing more.
Magical 80's movie about a 14 year old boy in love with a 16 year old girl he met during the summer. Featuring a young Corey Haim, Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder. Perfect for the whole family.
Put simply, this was an amazing movie - it was just simply wonderful. Astonishing acting (Corey Haim was robbed in not getting the Young Artist Award), brilliant directing and a fantastic script. Altogether a must see movie - it still (after 13 years) has an up-to-date storyline - it could be re-released tomorrow and it would still fly.
