(12)Different & interesting.
By dumbolives (269 reviews) from Shetland , 04 Oct 2011A read a review for this saying that if you liked Dil Chahta Hai you would like this...I think I should just clarify that this film is nothing like Dil Chahta Hai except for the fact that it is very well directed and focuses somewhat on friendship. Apart from that, there's no similarity...this is more of a marmite film.
The story follows our female lead and our male lead as they both try to break into the mainstream Hindi film business. The film doesn't romanticise anything or try to make it seem more glamorous, it simply shows the struggles and lengths that some people will go to to make it big.
There are plenty of cameo's from major stars which blends well with the main story...the chemistry between the two main characters was a bit off but then one of the characters was extremely selfish and the other was a bit too giving of themself so whilst their is no great romance in this film, the relationships are more realistic.
On the whole I enjoyed watching this but mainly because it was so different from the usual Bollywood fare. I liked it's style and I love Faran Akhtar!- Was this review helpful to you?

sub-titles are unreadable
By a customer from London , 02 Dec 2010sadly tis true, even on a big ol' wide screen the english sub-titles are too small to be read. not sure how that was allowed to happen but there you have it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Clever, affectionate and colourful
By Sarahblue (28 reviews) from Norwich, England , 11 May 2010Zoya Akthar's first film is a witty, affectionate insider's look at behind-the-scenes Bollywood. She uses the device of a 'film within a film' to blend a realistic story of hope and ambition with fantastically colourful song and dance. A brilliant ensemble cast demonstrate great comic timing to leaven the more serious themes, the behind-the-scenes details are fascinating and there are a multitude of cameos from every Bollywood star I can name (except the Big B - who is merely referred to by his son). His fans will all wish there was more of Hrithik (don't we always?) but that would have unbalanced the film and I defy you to find a better dance sequence than Baawre. I recommend this as a film crossing over into realism without losing the freshness and joy of Hindi cinema.
Only 4 stars because the subtitles were small, difficult to decipher and flashed off before I had time to read them. Plus the dvd does tend to freeze or skip throughout the second half but that might be due to the age of my dvd player.- Was this review helpful to you?

Fictionalised facts
By RKS (9 reviews) from London , 15 Dec 2009These events do happen in real life, maybe not everyday. The acting is good and Rishi Kapoor and Juhi are hilarious. You eagerly await their scenes- they seem so real!
I would have loved had they given more footage to both of them. And even Sanjay Kapoor didnt dissapoint. It was a light funny movie and I would watch it again. Hritik was good too as was every other actor. Dimple played her role to perfection. The whole movie was a visual treat. Nicely detailed characters. Worth watching more than once- Was this review helpful to you?

Unwatchable!
By BigMeUp (281 reviews) from Midlands, UK , 15 Nov 2009Unwatchable: literally!
The film is not in English, and the sub-titles are too small to read. Ergo, viewers who don't speak the movie's lingua franca aren't able to follow the dialogue. Ergo, the film is literally unwatchable!
I would have given the film a zero-star rating, except for the fact that I enjoyed the opening music track! Awww...- Was this review helpful to you?
