Have to disagree with Sam Hammond !
By Ian Tomlinson from Scotland , 13 Mar 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
I was nearly put off this film by Sam's criticism, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, so I feel that I must give another point of view.
I liked the film and think that Nicole Kidman is great in it. I'm not all that easily pleased by films, but this one is perfectly enjoyable - not at all disappointing !- Was this review helpful to you?

(17)Undecided Story and Plot
By Cato (715 reviews) from Lydbury North , 30 Dec 2011I think this film started out as a comedic venture and ended up as a bit of a soppy and unlikely love story. This may have had something to do with a certain Stephen Fry being in on the writing of it, but maybe it wasn't, perhaps the film was just a bit undecided what it wanted to be. Anyway, it ain't no Porridge and it's certainly no tough prison drama, unless you count the meanness of Ron Cook as the nasty warder. It's quite well done in a Minder sort of way, minus Arthur Daley or for that matter Ronnie Barker unfortunately.- Was this review helpful to you?

Lucky Break
By Belvedere (1 review) from Ryde , 13 Sep 2010This is a very funny film, well constructed, beautifully written and very well acted - it's almost as good as The Full Monty! Not sure why it didn't become a big success. Very well worth watching!- Was this review helpful to you?

What a pitty
By a customer from Ipswich , 26 Oct 2008I usually like C4 films. Generally think they are Okay but, this one is not that great. Not diabolical thankfully but it is dull. A dull storyline, that boy meets girl thing can get a bit boring. The story centres around an escape plan, from prison, while setting up and doing a musical - of all things. So, you do suffer a little bit of cringe worthy lyrics that musical never fail to provide. You have to have a power hungry prison warden, no prison drama, comedy, film is complete without one. All the usual charactors you'll find in this eays going but fearly tedious film. There are parts in it that try to be funny but, never actually made me laugh although I did appriciate the light hearted mood the film portrayed throughout. Yes, it's an ok-ish sought of film if you're stuck for something to watch but, if you have a list of better films to watch then, hold off in this one until you're a little desparate.- Was this review helpful to you?

Entertaining
By a customer from Southport , 25 Jan 2008Nice little story, Nesbitt is good, characters interesting. Rather unrealistic view of prison life, I suspect. The lads in drag at the end were funny.- Was this review helpful to you?
