    [Highly rated reviewer]

The film opens with 2 bookies being shot at the races, after a tip off about a horse. Then we are believed that Sleven finds his wife in bed with another man, he is then bannished from his flat, and so goes to stay at his friend Nicks apartment, but outside he is mugged and gets his nose broken, all in all I would say he is having a bad day.

Things then go from bad to worse, when 2 men turn up looking for Nick and mistaken Sleven for him, they take Sleven to the Crime Boss, where Morgon Freeman tells him he is owed £96K, or alternatively he is to kill the Rabbi's son, the rival crime boss from accross the street, he then arrives back at the flat and 2 more chaps turn up and cart him off to see the Rabbi, he is then told he owes £30k to him, now when all this is going on we see Bruce in the background but until the end we don't really know what part he plays in it.

The film has more twists and turns than 'The Big One' and is a very slick thriller, full of guns shots, and clever editing, the acting is great and the film is very entertaining if not a little souless as you never really get in to the characters mind. All in all I would recommend you watch this on DVD. would give this 3 and a half stars, really.

  • I did like it

The film was a little slow to get started and a little confusing in the beginning but once it got going it was actually not bad. Loved Ben Kingsley and Morgan Freeman and, of course, Bruce Willis. The film jumps a little back and forward but I think it was all right. Not the full star rating.

  • Like an American Guy Ritchie film

And, when I say ‘like an American Guy Richie film’ I mean one of his good ones, not Swept Away. Lucky Number Slevin follows the tale of a young man, oddly enough who goes by the name ‘Slevin.’ Upon arriving in New York he’s mistaken for someone else and ends up getting caught in a life or death feud between two rival mob bosses (both wonderfully played by Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley). Throw into the mix a hitman (Bruce Willis) who you don’t know which side he’s on and Lucy Lui as the love interest and you have the recipe for a half decent film. Like made famous more in British gangster films, there are plenty of shady characters along the way (you know most will end up on the wrong end of a gun sooner or later), plus even more twists and turns so you don’t know who’s double-crossing who. However, luckily there aren’t so many plot twists here that the conclusion will leave you scratching your head and having to look the end up on the internet (as I found myself doing with Guy Ritchie’s ‘Revolver’). All in all, Lucky Number Slevin is a good, solid entry into the gangster genres. It may never quite attain the dizzy heights of Goodfellas etc, but it’s definitely worth a watch it you’re a fan of the genre.

  • Old Story, Well Done.

I'll start but saying the story, the twist, it's been done before, nothing new in this film, but it's rarely been told this well. Not a weak performance by anyone of the main cast and Lucy Liu actually surprised me with her acting chops.

I was put off seeing this when it came out, by friends who said it was dull, though I'm glad they didn't tell me or I simply forgot the twist. I will add a note of caution, I could easily understand why some won't enjoy this film as much as I did, the style of the story-telling for one and the fact that the twist is well sign-posted, though it doesn't make it any less enjoyable for me.

  • Lucky for some maybe?

Sorry to say this is a very average film. It has a very boring plot and even with a great cast, pretty much all the characters are totally un-human and non-realistic. It also contains two of the most un-cool and unbelievable gangster bosses to feature in a film.

This is a pretty cool film, a good plot with some very good performances. Its got a good surprise ending and as long as you dont expect too much you should enjoy it.
