The film opens with 2 bookies being shot at the races, after a tip off about a horse. Then we are believed that Sleven finds his wife in bed with another man, he is then bannished from his flat, and so goes to stay at his friend Nicks apartment, but outside he is mugged and gets his nose broken, all in all I would say he is having a bad day.
Things then go from bad to worse, when 2 men turn up looking for Nick and mistaken Sleven for him, they take Sleven to the Crime Boss, where Morgon Freeman tells him he is owed £96K, or alternatively he is to kill the Rabbi's son, the rival crime boss from accross the street, he then arrives back at the flat and 2 more chaps turn up and cart him off to see the Rabbi, he is then told he owes £30k to him, now when all this is going on we see Bruce in the background but until the end we don't really know what part he plays in it.
The film has more twists and turns than 'The Big One' and is a very slick thriller, full of guns shots, and clever editing, the acting is great and the film is very entertaining if not a little souless as you never really get in to the characters mind. All in all I would recommend you watch this on DVD. would give this 3 and a half stars, really.
This film is what cinema (and home cinema) was made for, it has everything, great casting, interesting plot and a few nice twists. It really zips along. This is a classy piece of film that you will want to rent... then buy, to have in your collection. You can't lose - this should be your special friday night film. Give it a go You will not be dissapointed.
I must admit to being a little fussy when it comes to plots - if a film is a thriller with twists, it needs to genuinely leave me feeling blown away.
This movie does just that, awesome.
The best I've watched for a long time.
There was no way you can work this out until the end. Great cast and movie making. I enjoyed the movie very much especially the end making my mind at rest knowing what really went on.
I did an evening class about film a few years ago and I bet the film buff's will love this one. I recon that if all of Hollywood's films apart from this one suddenly disappeared by magic, the whole of tinsel town's 'oeuvre' could be reconstructed just from Lucky Number Slevin. Its 'Classic Hollywood narrative' follows a courageous man (helped by his wise 'tutor') fighting wrongs and, as he shows no signs of pain as his nose is broken twice, what a man! The power of love soothes all pain and drives the good on to fight for justice. It has star quality in abundance (just look at that cast list) and a stonking, sometimes psychedelic 'mis-en-scene' (well that's what they would call it in the evening class but really, I am talking about the wallpapers). This film is good watching. Intriguing, exciting and stylish and reaches a satisfactory resolution at the end. I enjoyed it aged 47 but it would be even more wow to those aged in their teens. But, there again, that's Hollywood.

The best I've watched for a long time.
What a great film, a better twist then Fight Club, with some great acting, especially off of Josh Hartnett, I don't really know what to put in this review that won't ruin the film for you, but anything with Morgan Freeman is worth a watch, Lucy Lu is great to look at, and the plot is amazing. The long and short of it, is this is a clever film, well worth a view!
Mr Willis compliments an excellent storyline with a peerless performance.
Despite a fine cast doing their best with a flimsy script and some down right corny dialogue Lucky Number Slevin fails to satisfy.
Way too predictable and formulaic, it meanders along attempting tricky camera moves (Fight Club, Usual Suspects) until it plays its trump card of a twist which only people with 10 second memories and have already forgotten the beginning of the film wont see coming.
I saw this at the cinema and was on the edge of my seat. This is a must see movie. It stars Bruce Willis whose screen presence alone is awesome,Ben Kingsley and Morgan Freeman who play rival mafia bosses,Josh Harnett who plays the underdog Slevin and a rather sexy lucy Lui.The mafia bosses live in lush buildings which overlook each other these buildings are guarded like fortresses. Each boss is paranoid of the other and due to conflicts in the past is convinced they would try and kill each other. Therefore neither boss ever leaves their self made prison.Morgan freeman devises a plot to try get the other boss and his family. Now enter Josh Hartnet(slevin) who is dragged in front of Freeman and is wrongly mistaken for a guy called Nick who owes Freeman nearly 100 grand.Despite slevins protests that they got the wrong man he is still asked to do the hit.The plot thickens and has more twists than a helter skelter ride. There is a lot more to the story but i wouldn't want to ruin it.The film reaches an amazing climax and a jaw dropping conclusion. It is also very funny in parts.SEE IT you will not be disappointed.
All the hype for this film turned me off when it first came out & just rented it to make up the numbers, was I surprised. This film is slick in every way. The plot line is intriguing (ok you don't need to be Einstein to anticipate the climax but you don't spend the film waiting for it) the acting is superb from a heavyweight cast, the dialogue well written & it just looks superb. All that gushing from someone who thinks Josh Hartnett is a k*ob & Bruce Willis hasn't made a decent film for a while. Rent it & enjoy
I have raved about this movie since it was released at the cinema and I was originally forced to watch it.
It is a truly great movie, the emphasis on writing is evident as well as the feel of the movie and the locations - it is obvious that a lot of effort has been placed on the visual effects, from the Slevins flat, to that of the restaurant, airport etc all adds to the drama of the scene.
The story and ability of the writers keeps the viewers on the edge of their seat - its pace draws you enough to ask for more without revealing the plot too early on.
The cast are phenomanal -From the greats Ben Kingsley, Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis as well as the eye candy Josh Hartnett and Lucy Liu.
All in, I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good old fashioned action movie that is written well and has a convincing plot and story to carry it through to the end and maintain your interest.
OK it is star laden so should you watch it just for this? Well no you should go see it because the plot is very good.
