Fantastic

This is truly a fantastic film.
The plot meanders along giving you the sense of a spectre haunting sets as the story slowly unravels itself.
The acting is very strong making particular note to the opposing parts of the police chief and mob boss who through there own ways are both after similar goals.
the only complaints i have are with the production of the DVD its self:
1. the print is in clear need of restoration with it even braking up in parts and the contrast has be hugely lost. It amazes me that a film of such significance has been left to reach such a condition.
2. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to put white subtitles over the screen on a black and white film, it renders about half the script unreadable making the viewer more or less having to guess the ends of sentences.
3. What is with the menu screen being full of female vampires and bare breasts??? not right for a PG DVD or anything to do with the plot.- Was this review helpful to you?

Irrationality and double-think
By Stogumbrian (3 reviews) , 27 Aug 2011M is doubly chilling: first because the vicious irrationality of the fear and hatred aroused by a series of child murders reminds us of the tabloid reaction today, and second because the society portrayed in the movie -- Germany at the start of the 1930s -- was soon to acquiesce in the Nazis' ascent to power and the vicious irrationality of Hitler. Lang's powerful cinematic language -- look out for the use of wide top-shots -- gives us a little distance from the action while fully exposing us to the hypocrisy and double-think displayed by the characters. This is far more than a whodunnit; in the way it explores the impact of murder on all around it, this film reaches forward to such masterpieces of the contemporary crime genre as 'The Killing'.- Was this review helpful to you?

characterful thriller
By a customer , 04 Jul 2011Chillingly good, for its time a revelation in composition and ensemble acting. peter Lorre's speech when captured is a terrifying defence of his crime that so many others have followed.- Was this review helpful to you?

Story told brilliantly
By Louis4 (3 reviews) , 30 Apr 2011I'm 22 and being such haven't grown up with access to such classic films, however due to the assertations of pop culture i can usually guess what is happening hus ruining films.
Not only was this not spoiled, it showed a time currently alien to modern day film.
Next up Alphaville.- Was this review helpful to you?
