not as endearing as the tv show but non the less a good film, don't bother with the bonus disc which follows many a dvd 'extra' plot of overally long and boring interviews with this, that and the other...especially as it counts towards a rental???
From start to finish there is a tangible air of chaos and uncertainty on screen which captures perfectly the natural state of war.
Even in their quiet moments, the characters are never far from the chaos and insanity which ingrains itself into every aspect of their lives.
This film is an extremely humorous take on American military life in the days of the draft, and despite the setting being the Korean war, the comments made are aimed obviously at the insanity of Vietnam.
The dialogue may take some getting used to, the multitude of overlapping events happening simultaneously on screen may confuse you, but thats the way it should be.
This film (as with all Altman movies) is all about atmosphere, and there is no better example of Altmans atmosphere at work than this.
Okay, maybe three out of five is a generous score for a crude teen sex comedy that thinks “F.U.” stands for funny – I should probably warn you it scores 3.1 out of ten on the aggregator site metacritic.com and 27 % on Rotten Tomatoes, so maybe my standards are way out of line.
