Doesn't work as a movie

Not having seen it, I was quite curious about the feature film which started off an excellent series. I was, however, disappointed. Not because it was very different from the series, but because the script doesn't quite work as a feature length movie.

The film lacks an overarching plot line, but (much like the series) offers a succession of unconnected semi-comical situations in which the cast get tangled up. Some of these are pleasant enough, but it's too disjointed to hold your attention throughout. Though the film uses the same characters as the series (albeit played by different actors), there's also no time for character development, so that it becomes difficult to care about their antics.

Performances are solid but rather flat - offering the slapstick without the drama - and lack subtlety (Hawkeye and Trapper lack in good-natured humour and become mere bullies). Overall, I wouldn't recommend it.

About the reviewer: Zebulon

My wife and I use Lovefilm to rent television shows for our two year old son, and to rent films and (mostly American) series for when the little one is asleep. I suppose we tend to like indie films, about real life characters, with some drama and some humour.

Titles rented: 133
