A biographical sketch of one of America's most famous generals. While delivering the farewell address to the students of West Point in 1962, General Douglas MacArthur (Gregory Peck) reflects on the events of his life: his achievements as the head of the American forces in the Pacific during World War II, his years governing postwar Japan, and his final campaign in Korea which led to clashes with President Harry S. Truman and his subsequent dismissal.

Veteran actor Tommy Lee Jones is stepping back in history to portray American army hero General Douglas Macarthur in a new post-war drama. The Men In Black star has joined Lost actor Matthew Fox in the cast of Emperor, a film directed by Peter Webber and set in Japan during the aftermath of World War II.
