No set or scenery and completely filmed in shadow and subdued lighting, this production for television relies totally on the subtlelty and power of Shakespeare's language for consummate effect. McKellen and Dench wring every shade of expression and style of delivery from the script ably supported by the rest of the cast to produce a reading which is both austere and intense.
