After an unpromising beginning - poor film quality and synchronisation - the interest picks up as Jeremy Brett gets hold of the part and makes something of it. Unfortunately most of the supporting roles are second or third rate - with the notable exception of Macduff. An honourable stab at a notoriously difficult play and full marks for not cutting the text. Kurosawa's 'Throne Of Blood' remains the definitive film version of the story.
