When Marty escapes from Central Park Zoo, Alex, Melman and Gloria begin a rescue mission to find and return their friend. However, they soon find themselves reunited, but.......on a ship bound for Africa. The ship is hijacked and they inadvertantly get stranded on a strange island. Here they learn what life in the wild is actually like.

A very clever and colourful animation that really is a beautiful piece of work. Lovable characters, great voiceovers and a superb plot means top entertainment for kids with a little for adults mixed in.

  • Not the best.

With the cast including such big stars it failed to deliver in my opinion. It also failed to entertain my 2½ year old daughter and fell far short of the high energy animated films 'Cars' and 'Ratatouille' which she can't get enough of.

The motion is slow and the plot is fairly thin so overall 2 stars which are only awarded as the animation is good and the voice actors are obviously trying to make the best of a dull storyline.

  • mood of the movie

Charmless animated movie about New Yorkers removed from their natural environment, relying on in-jokes of movie theme tunes (Born Free and the like) to provide amusement. The animation is visually stunning, and the animals' stylized rendering and friendly look is in keeping with the energetic mood of the movie.
