In its heyday, Madison, Indiana was a thriving port on the Ohio River. But by 1971, hard times and unemployment are driving the locals away. The city's one claim to fame is its participation in hydroplane boat racing, a dream kept alive by Jim McCormick (Jim Caviezel) and the team of the Miss Madison, the town's boat. Jim was an up and coming racer in 1961, when he was injured in a race that also took the life of his best friend. The townsfolk were there to support his recovery, and since then, he has been content to work on the team of the Miss Madison and raise a family in his hometown. But when Madison is chosen to sponsor the Gold Cup, the pinnacle race of the hydroplane boat racing circuit, Jim is determined to save his dying town and their old boat from being the laughing stock in a competition where the other teams have bottomless budgets. More important, he wants his young son, Mike (Jake Lloyd) to take pride in Madison and in his roots. Based on a true story, MADISON is about a small town that defies the odds, and a man who overcomes his own fears.

Good old fashioned entertainment
Very dull American shmultz. The story has no depth and as a consequence you care little for the characters involved. Very predictable with little in the way of drama to keep you interested. It needed a bit more involvement to make it anywhere near 3stars. A nobrainer.
Only rented this film because i have a thing for Jim Caviezal ( who plays the lead). And if it wasnt for him this film would have been terrible.Bland plot bland acting and terrible story.
However the boat crash scene is hysterical. The budget must have been tiny as when the boat crashes there are so obviously lego men in the boats which are on miniture scale!!
I wouldnt really recommend this film but have to give it 3 stars as I am mad for Jim Caviezal and he can do no wrong in my book!!!!
The movie of the Broadway show of the movie 'Ah, the circle of life! Once upon a time little John Waters was condemned to the cult midnight movie circuit for cheapo bad taste extravaganzas like Multiple Maniacs , Pink Flamingos, and Desperate Living. Gradually, though, something shifted. It wasn't so much that Waters sold out, more that the mainstream came to meet him halfway, which is more or less what transpired when he wrote and directed the original version of Hairspray in 1988.
