Most helpful review Mahabharat - Condensed 15 Hour Version

  • TERRIBLE PICTURE AND SOUND QUALITY

What a rip off this is. Looks like someone took out their old VHS video tapes and put it straight to DVD with no attempt to remaster it. Video drop outs, tape hiss, wow and flutter are all present. I will not buy this till some attempt is made to improve the techinical quality. I know this is possible, since the quality of the same serial is much better on Zee TV.

  • Mahabharat small epic

What ever u do, do not get this epic. This Epic is a shorter version of the full Mahabharat Epic up to 16 disc. This has a lot missing parts which lead to confusion rather then the whole story. Parts have been cut to shorter this down. Its like watching a TV show that was suppose to last 1hr but lasted 10mins.

I recommend you get the FULL MAHABHARAT EPIC ALSO SUPPLIED BY LOVEFILM 16 DISC

If you havent watched the Mahabharat , this is your chance... The story hasnt been messed with and the actors are just right for their roles.

  • Great Experience

I can't believe I watched the whole 900 minutes (five discs) of the Mahabharat! This was a genuine Indian version (director Ravi Chopra), and made no concessions to those unfamiliar with the ancient epic. Since my only background was a love of Indian cinema including Bollywood, it required a certain commitment of time and effort. At first I found it a bit confusing, but eventually I was gripped by the drama, and actually didn't want the saga to come to an end. I feel I had a glimpse of a deep and important culture, and I wonder if I am correct in sensing the influence of the Mahabharat in many modern films? It would be useful for someone knowledgeable about Hindu culture to comment on this version. As an uninformed but interested viewer, I felt it was an exciting and worthwhile experience.

  • Worth seeing, but for the educational value

Don’t expect superb acting or fascinating special effects if you rent this. The production is clearly low-budget and even seems a bit naïve compared to the visually perfect films of today. What makes this captivating is the storyline and the abundant detail about India’s folklore and traditions.

I quite enjoyed it, although I must say the sheer length--and the looming 12 hours of the remaining 4 parts--make this quite a project.

A classic if a bit noisy version of the Hindu epic. Indians seem to like this sort of over the top film.
