Unlike recorded opera, films of concerts are a bit unsatisfactory and static, best regarded as documents of special occasions - good for a library and probably likely to be viewed only occasionally by individuals. This is a great reminder of Lucia Popp and Leonard Bernstein; you also get an unbelievably young and handsome Thomas Hampson. The third singer, Walton Groesnoos (who?) is nothing like as good or charismatic. The DVD is a bit short - it's a shame they couldn't find a performance of Das Lied von der Erde to add to the value.
