This movie is intresting to watch, while it looks like a classic western it underling themes have more to do with the darker side of US expansionism. Very well acted, how Heston has become the gun supporting old man that he now is shows the inherent ideology of the american system. Visually this movie is stunning and the script is good to, vsiting a lot of elements that he would reserect in The Wild Bunch a few years later. I just wish that they would re-release this on dvd because i've only got a copy on vhs which i taped of the bbc years ago.
I first saw this film on vhs and thought it was brilliant then and i have not changed my mind since renting it again on dvd. The performance's of Charles Heston(major dundee),Richard Harris(capt tiree) & James Coburn(sam potts, the one armed indian scout)was top notch.
A must see for all western fans,a great adventure story.
