Roger Willoughby (Rock Hudson) is a super salesman of sporting goods who sells fishing equipment but knows nothing about the sport. Roger's boss Cadwalader (John McGiver) gets an idea from publicity director Abigail (Paula Prentiss) to enter him in a fishing contest, and the inept angler has a series of comic consequences before he wins the contest with some help from a bear. When Roger admits that his winning the event was merely luck, he turns in the prize and loses his job. Roger eventually wins Abigail's heart and gets his job back. Howard Hawks directs this slapstick comedy with his typical flair -- witty dialogue and effective sight gags included.~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide

Great to see this film on DVD at last, the Tv showings were always poor quality, this is crystal clear with good sound. No extras except for the trailer.The film has stood the test of time and is still a good laugh.

Deeper Water than You Think

A good film for its time, in which Rock Hudson plays a hapless fishing tackle salesman who becomes an authority on fly fishing as he's written a book on the subject, although he actually hates fish. It does make you wonder why he embarked on the job in the first place, but I suppose this sort of situation happens to a lot of us in life. Anyway, there are some very good comic moments when he enters a competition, as well as the romantic attraction of Paula Prentiss in one of her best roles. A seemingly slight film with issues that affect all of us.

A moderatly amusing Rock Hudson comedy typical of the star and the period in time with Paula Prentis, smileable and easy going.
