He doesn't work for a detective, he IS the detective. That corrected, i think this show is definitely worth a look. I'm thoroughly in love with it, but then i'm a nostalgia affictionado with a weakness for grey-haired texans.
The show is gritty, although there's some humour it's not a light happy-go-lucky affair, it takes itself very seriously. Seeing as it's fairly dated,
that seriousness can make for some unintentionally funny bits and cheesiness, but not too much. Richard Bradford does a fantastic job, and there are some brilliant stories that provide angst and spy/cop type action.
If you decide to try it, don't give up after the first disc. McGill's impenetrable exterior can leave you cold initially, but by the end of disc two you may start to see a glimpse of something really worth paying attention to.
I loved watching these when I was a kid. They are a bit dated now and some of the stories are pretty thin but I loved watching them as much as before. If you liked the Saint you would like these. Pure tv nostalgia.
