An old-fashioned, full-blooded, non-ironic World War II movie... Despite elements of darkness and depth, it's a stirring, often uplifting story in which you never cease to feel involved... It's easy to see why this has become the most successful Norwegian movie ever
The film is a thrilling, old-fashioned tale of derring-do that balances tense action sequences with more personal insights into Manus and the many comrades who fell along the road to victory in Europe
MMMOW kicks off with a battle piece, set in Finland, the photography of which reminded me a little of Saving Private Ryan - it doesn't last 24 minutes though. The film then proceeds to tell the story of Max's somewhat corpse strewn journey from being a rank amateur resistance fighter in Nazi occupied Norway to being a thoroughly professional one.
A good mix of action, dialogue and a small amount of love interest all coupled with decent casting and photography makes for enjoyable viewing.
Even my better half, who normally eschews war movies, wandered in during the latter 3rd of the film and stayed to watch until the end.
