As usual with Denzel Washington, you get an engaging story (certainly by action film standards, anyway).

This is not as good as the gripping and thrilling Fallen, my favourite Denzel Washington movie, but it is still well worth watching - assuming violence doesn't put you off. There is a lot of violence, mostly implied and out of shot, but some of it is not left to the imagination. Given the subject matter (a washed up (ex-special forces) body guard working in Mexico City whose charge - a little girl - is kidnapped) I think the violence was inevitable.

The film was perhaps a touch long, which slowed the pace, and occasionally lapses into sentimentality, with one or two aspects to the story which lack credibility, or I would have given it five stars.

    Definitely a must see, though.

Any movie with Denzel Washington is sure to get people readying the popcorn. This is no exception Gripping storyline (although somewhat cliche at parts, but who cares we love this stuff) the characters are quickly uncovered to help things move without too much backtracking. This movie keeps you on your toes at is packed full of events and with the soundtrack you will be tingling as you watch things unravel over the course of this film Be sure to listen to El Paso after you are done, great guitar piece!

A typical Hollywood full on thriller. No sophistication, just all out blood & guts. I enjoyed it, would not watch it again when it comes on TV though.

This was a Kermode recommendation following the death of Tony Scott, I had never heard of this film before.

It is a very good film, can't believe it passed me by when it was released, it is a very different film from the usual Tony Scott high action popcorn friendly films. It is very gritty and seems to capture the Mexico underbelly at its lowest points.

    Highly recommended.
