Do you like 80s buffont hair styles?
Does the sight of a shell suit fill you with awe?
Is Bruce Campbell a God?
Do you like your horror more cheesy then Mr Cheese's Cheese party?
If you answered yes to the above then this film is for you. I expected little from this film and it did not deliver that much but it was impressive enough.
A rogue cop is on the loose in NYU killing innocent people. The police think they have their man when they arrest Bruce Campbell. But is it a mistake? Will Bruce assure his freedom? Can a film contain more crimson?
Maniac Cop - a superior cheesy 80s horror, think Fright Night!
Maniac Cop and 2 are bril if you lke a good hoor.
fell a sleep watching it thats how good it was

That's all I can muster. The dreadfulness of this ridiculous excuse for a cinematic experience has left me near speechless. Abysmal. Watch it if you want to be reminded of how rubbish films can be when a script, the cast and director are all similtaneously useless. PS, When my husband said he'd rented Maniac Cop, I thought he said Maniac Carp, and was bitterly disappointed when I realised I wouldn't see a big fish killing people. Now that would be a good movie...

I'll be honest, I rented this because it had Bruce Campbell and Richard Roundtree in it. Ash from Evil Dead AND Shaft? Excellent 80s schlock poster? It'll be a blast!
Not the case. Campbell and Roundtree gurn and gnash their way through turgid dialogue and pedestrian camerawork in a thoroughly naff entry in to the stalk-and-slash genre that sprang up in the wake of 1978 masterpiece, Halloween. This isn't scary in the least and the make up of the baddie is rubbish. Forget this bilge and rent The Burning instead. Or Friday the 13th. Or, better still, the one that started it all: Halloween. .
Just not this. It's RUBBISH!

After a series of brutal murders in New York City are linked to a cop, the City?s Police Force finds themselves under pressure as members of the public start blowing away anyone in a blue uniform. So when a cop?s wife is found strangled to death and in possession of tape recordings incriminating her husband, Officer Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell) finds the finger is pointing squarely at him. Maniac Cop is a great no brainer action/horror film from the 80s and is full to the brim with illogical plotting, an over-the-top electro score, cheesy dialogue and a decent body count. The claim that Campbell is underused is a valid one but the little time he spends on screen is fully utilised by some great lines (check out the motel scene) and his natural on-screen charisma. The supporting cast visibly struggle with the roles given but given the tongue-in-cheek tone of the film, this is hardly a problem (watch out for Richard ?Shaft? Roundtree as the Police Commissioner). Perhaps not the most original film to come out of the US but the plot itself is an interesting one, even if it?s in 80s cheese overdrive. If you are a fan of Campbell or B-movies in general this is certainly worth a visit. An enjoyable 3.5/5.
I enjoyed this film , typical horror film , but a good one . Well worth watching if you havent rented yet.
Only rented this because it starred the legendary iron-chinned Bruce Campbell! I was actually disappointed at the amount he was in it really..this is one of those films where no one is really the star, but is also one of those films where you really don't give a toss!
Story wise, this is no different to a million other films of the same genre, and even paves the way for some of cinemas more recent teeny slasher films. Except this one is about a deranged copper who likes to go about serving, but in no way protecting innocent folks on the streets.
Watch it with some beers and a take away...but don't expect any Evil Dead style Brucie one-liners!!
a old film but a good one to watch.
A Terrible film from an era of terrible films. But what you gonna do?
Mad half dead cop going around on rampage, Bruce Campbell gets fitted for the killings and has to clear himself.
The B-Movie genre rarel gets better.
Worth it to see young Bruce to his 'I'm freaked out and scared' look ;)
