An utterly repugnant horror film that at least has the courage of its gruesome convictions. It tells the tale of an eminent surgeon who abducts victims and removes their eyes in the hope of restoring the sight of his daughter, blinded in a car wreck. Borrowing liberally from Eyes without a Face (1959), which featured a similarly bonkers scientist grafting faces onto his daughter's scarred head, director Michael Pataki piles on the banality and reduces veterans Richard Basehart and Gloria Grahame to embarrassed shells of their former selves. Squeamish viewers beware: the film features some actual eye surgery footage.
