This was atrocious even by the barrel-scraping standards of many a sword and sandal epic. Stuck on beards; very bad matte painting SFX; bizarre casting: Hywel Bennett as a piggy-eyed, bloated WASP Herod; the mad geezer from Braveheart as Jock the Baptist; David Threlfall as Joseph! About as convincing as a Medieval Relic, it was the cinematic equivalent of getting a Christmas card from someone you don't like: glance briefly; snort in derision; bin it. And does the world really need ANOTHER dose of sickly-saccharine Christine fodder?
