yet another movie that looks beautiful, but doesn't deliver, because no one seems prepared to pay as much for a good writer as for lighting, set dressers and cameramen. Everything about sets, costumes, angles,cutting and colour is terrific, but the A-list cast have nothing to work with. Julia Roberts does passive and vulnerable; Malkovitch does torment with a stiff upper lip. The only interesting characters are the downstairs bit of the upstairs/downstairs household...they may be caricatures but they do have some lines to work with. Hate to say it, but I was bored.
