[Highly rated reviewer]after watching captain blood and the sea hawk i was looking forward to another great swashbuckling pirate film like it says on the main review. is an ok story, but not realy a pirate film like captain blood and the sea hawk, so was dissapointed
Scottish swashbucklingBy b-movie (161 reviews) from Cardigan , 01 May 2013its is a good adventure film with a swashbuckling twist, Errol Flynn as Scottish rebel Jamie. only one thing i will say bad about the film, for a Scottish family they cant keep their accent for long it seems it goes back to English (a little bit of history there in the story at the start)
A Christmas BoxBy Phenix (8 reviews) , 13 Nov 2012I remember going to the cinema with my parents one Christmas Eve to see this film. It was magic in the true sense of the word and an occasion I will never forget.
I have watched this film several times and I would like to think
everyone else enjoys it as much as I have, and will again, in the future. ' Here's to Adventure, History,Treason and Excitement.'
Weather you be young or older I'm sure you will enjoy this oldie from Warner Bros.
Best Wishes, Frederick
Uninspired Stevenson AdaptationBy Jennish (336 reviews) from Rye , 28 Nov 2011Long before anyone contrived the phrase 'genre mash up' it was being done by adventure novelist Robert Louis Stevenson and this is an abridged and very loose adpatation of one of his works.
This is one of the better films from Errol Flynn's post war work. For all the booze Errol is stil surprisingly sprightly as the Highland Laird fleeing Culloden, betrayed by someone at home and forced into piracy in the West Indies. There perhaps isn't the pirate action for some but that isn't the main draw back. The sudden switches between second unit film in Scotland and a Hollywood soundstage with the main cast on it are almost laughably badly handled, managing to look cheap and inept.
Flynn and the rest of the cast do well to salvage things, especially in the all too brief buccaneering sequences, but this is outgunned by earlier Flynn forays like Sea Hawk.
