Superb finess, structure and flair.

A rampant romp full of pouting, damaged dreamers. Sensual even when its not explicit, this sets new standards in smoldering and obsessive compulsive morbidity. The camera's gaze is besotted with the youthful Banderas, who gives good gaze right back. Intense when it isn't nonchalant but always lost to its own crazy passions. Not quite as tricky and willful as Almodavar's later confections but his genius for drama and superb imagery is already on the loose. A stampede of talent, restrained by a lightness of touch. Elegant.
