The final movie in Larry and Andy Wachowski's MATRIX trilogy is THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS. Toning down the romantic and philosophic elements of the second film in the series, THE MATRIX RELOADED, this third installment focuses on action. Neo (Keanu Reeves) is trapped in limbo between reality and the Matrix, while Zion, the last .. Read more

Continuing straight on from the events of Reloaded, the first hour of this more substantial second sequel plays like an extended version of the previous film: annoyingly cryptic conversations, overfamiliar acrobatic shoot-outs and inert pacing. But, in a great second half, the Wachowski brothers get the trilogy back on track, as humans in huge combat armour battle valiantly to protect their Zion stronghold against a million robotic Sentinels. Both technically and artistically, this extended siege is perhaps the most impressive set piece of the series, while Keanu Reeves's journey as Neo culminates in a gravity-defying, rain-soaked duel with Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) that is moody superhero spectacle par excellence. Performances are of a better standard than Reloaded, too, and although the perpetual vibe of self-importance and climactic slabs of cyber-cheese do undermine some remarkable film-making, the integration of action, emotion, plot and character arcs is more satisfying this time around. The ending is not entirely convincing, however.
Disappointing finale to the trilogy, which manages to finish with a bang and a whimper, though leaving its audience none the wiser for all its grandiose intentions.
"...Prepare to be dazzled and dumbfounded by the stunning spectacle, astonishing action and sensational special effects..."
Have to disagree totally. I was desperate to enjoy this film, convinced the negative reviews were just backlash.
Having loved the original, and thinking that the second was quite watchable and enjoyable (mainly for the fights), I was hugely disappointed by this final film. I agree that the gun battle sequence was good, if a little long, but the rest was incredibly poor.
It starts very slowly, goes nowhere very quickly, and the final Neo/Agent Smith fight is just laughably stupid (worse, perhaps, than the final fight in The Hulk for its pointlessness).
It's depressing to sit in a cinema and dream of watching the original film of a trilogy for the umpteenth time rather than sit through one of its sequels even once. It's worse than Star Wars Episode One, although, thankfully, not as childish.
People have slated this film. Why? I can only imagine that they don't understand it. This is the film that Reloaded should have been. The only good part in Reloaded was the twins. Relocate them to Revolutions, forget about Reloaded and you'd have a superb duo.
It's true, this film is complicated but that's because the plot is subtle. It's not your bog standard block buster where the good guys try to out-do the bad guys. There is so much more to it than that. Listen carefully when Neo talks to The Oracle and it will all fall into place. If you miss this part then the film will make no sense and you'll have felt you've wasted your time. However, if you listen carefully you'll recognise that it's a cracker of a movie.
The problem here is that it had to follow the Excellent first Matrix Film, which technically outclasses both Matric Reloaded and Revolutions. if people thought Reloaded was disappointing then sorry to say that Revolution is not any better. At least Matrix had substance but both the follow up seems to lack any ideas - it just became very dull. Probably the expectancy made these films fail, but if you just want a film which just goes with the flow - then enjoy - just do not expect much! i personally thought they over did the special effects, just became tiresome, where in the original the special effect made the film, this time ruined the film. maybe a film to watch the once to see what the fuss was about - because it does have some good parts, just approach with caution!
Well, my hopes weren't high. After the debacle that was Matrix Reloaded, I approached this film witrh a trepidation unknown since Jaws 3D slipped into my toploader VHS whats seems like a hundred years ago.
Neo has become even more plastic than he was in the second film (and even in the first film it could be argued that Reeves had a tendency to take the odd nibble out of a passing piece of scenery), he is now totally reduced to being a simplistic vehicle for the trilogies increasingly unsubtle symbolism. Trinity's purpose is to make goo-goo eyes at Neo and attempt to look sexy wearing ill fitting grey jumpers with holes in them. Smith has become a pastiche of himself. The Oracle just keeps answering questions with questions (highly annoying). Morpheus is a non-entity and I can't honestly remember a single line of his throughout the entire film. The battle for Zion is a master class of CGI pixel pushing and hammed up overacting. The ending is'nt that great either.
To sum up, I didn't like it. It mixes cereal box philosophy, unsubtle christian symbolism , a hysterical script and some very poor acting.
Although better than the second outing it was still tedious and tiered. I so wish they had kept to one...

Man do I feel for the people who couldn't take anything from the final part of this trilogy.
Okay, so you're never going to beat the first film, the second was too full of special effects and lack of substance but the third, the third, oh my, what a great finale, superbly sewn up story with just the right mix of special effects, fight scenes, emotion and anticipation.
A great film, don't be taken in with all the *explanations*, take from it what you will, and enjoy.
Complete and utter rubbish. Possibly the worst sci-fi film ever made. Makes Battlefield Earth look like it was written, directed and starred a multitude of Oscar winners. How that film got panned and this did not is beyond me.Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Isaac Asimov and any other person in history with an ounce of imagination would turn in their grave. People who snuffed it before this film was made have one thing to be grateful for. I like blockbusters where you 'put your brain in a jar' for a couple of hours. If you are sick/delirious and must watch this, I suggest putting your eyes, ears and possibly even your sense of smell in there too - a total stinker.
The first film was great and breaking boundaries, this film however was the complete reverse.
Rather dull finale to this overblown trilogy. One decent action scene - but not a patch on the 1st installment
Well, I have to say I loved the first Matrix film. Totally and completely. It blew me away, and I never recovered.
The excitment I suffered waiting for the two sequels was immense, and I hugely enjoyed Reloaded, even if I was a little let down by lack of solid plot. The thing that did it for me was the teasing promises, the hints, clues, and foreshadowing of some huge revelation in the final movie...
Hate to break it to you, but it never comes. The special effects are awsome, and the action top notch (although much is the same as we've already seen), but the film lets down in so many other ways.
Morpheus is given a back seat and pretty much does nothing. The battle for Zion drags on just a *little* too long. The 'super-brawl', promised to be the greatest thing we'd ever see on celluloid, is very good - but nothing more than that. The architect still has a perfectly trimmed beard, but little else to appeal. And the ending... well, lets just say 'damp squib' and leave it at that.
And all the answers we were promised? Never appear. Just some slightly embarrassed waffle about chosen ones and destiny and stuff. You leave the movie feeling slightly hollow, and more than a little cheated.
The trilogy deserved a better ending than this. I damn near cried myself to sleep.
The matrix trilogy is similar to the Die Hards, in that the first is fantastic the second awful and the third very good.
You have to watch 2 in order to follow the story but otherwise its a waste of time.
But like part 1 this was a film in its own right, and a good one.
Excellent action and graphics, however the acting is its weak part.
Otherwise a bloody good piece of entertainment.
I loved the first matrix because it was clever and in its way made sense and had the right mixture between action and story. Agent Smith (just the one) was also a great bad guy. Reloaded was a dissapointment but at least it was set in the matrix (therefore, one could relate to the action).
Revolution is pretentious tripe, largely set in an embarrassing b-movie like real world. Whats more you have to be a complete nerd even to begin understanding it all. For a normal person, it is just nonsensical, boring, pretentious rubbish.
