Although, I am huge fan of Phoenix Nights and it is indeed a sublime series. This is also an excellent series, right from the beginning where Paddy is teaching Max how to dance so they can pick-up girls from a night-club (definite parallels with a certain Patrick Swayze / Jennifer Gray dance film). They end up in a night-club full of sailors, so when they return the following night, Paddy is dressed like Richard Gere from 'An Officer and a Gentleman' and Max looks a little, how can I put this? Like something out of an Erasure video in his outfit.
There's the episode with Tina, Max's long lost love, the episode where Ironside aka Brian Potter comes to their 'rescue'...so many good stories.
There are many hilarious, laugh out loud moments, too many to capture here
but the one bit that sticks out in my memory is I will never think about Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in the same way again, ding dang doo!
If you love Phoenix Nights then this is a must see, this is a follow up of the two hapless doormen as they travel around the UK. Some episodes are stronger than others, but all will tickle your funny bone.
However I missed some of the characters from Pheonix Nights because they added variation to the episodes. The extras are a little disappointing because neither Kay or McGuinness do the commentaries. They have decided to have 'special' guests do them instead, some work really well and others simply don't.
All in all, a good DVD and will always get a laugh.
