Yes i did enjoy this film, although there could have been more about his life in the airborne, having said that , a good film for boxing afficianados.

Decent Bio film. The cover is deceptive. Before this I knew nothing about this man, one of the few that knocked out the great Joe Louis.

  • A respectful treatment

Interesting piece. Henry Maske looks and sounds just like Schwarzanegger - sadly, he has the same woodenness in acting.

The direction is somewhat pedestrian given the subject matter (this is no RAGING BULL) and feels a little like a TV movie. I was surprised when Uwe Boll's name came up.

That said, it's a respectful treatment of a remarkable individual, particularly his personal integrity throughout the Third Reich years.

  • Schwarzenegger school of acting, hello?!

Maske's performance of Max Schmeling is straight from the Schwarzenegger school of acting, lumpen, child-like but faintly endearing. The weighty subject matter is obviously dealt with and the whole thing has the feel of a tv movie and even the boxing scenes are sluggish. Boo!
