    [Highly rated reviewer]

This series is one of those bloodless, grit-free, lighter-than-air trifles that US TV used to be so good at - and you know what, I loved every minute!

If you're a fan of old movies, deadpan comedy or just a quiet chuckle, these short murder mysteries should fit the bill. Rock Hudson underplays it beautifully, even managing to make me laugh out loud in places, while Susan Saint James overacts in a class of her own (in this case that's a good thing, trust me, she's a scream). The writers knew that the plots would play second fiddle to the players, but the show is all the better for all. A real tonic.

  • NO STARS - NO PLAYABLE DISC- BIG DISAPPOINTMENT

Having seen the first disc from season one, I was really wanting to see this one to see how the series progressed.

UNFORTUNATELY, THIS DISC ARRIVED ALMOST BROKEN INTO TWO PIECES AND I FIND IT HARD TO UNDERSTAND HOW THIS EVEN GOT PAST QUALITY CONTROL

I had to give it a half star in order to post this comment. .

    Nostalgia at its best!

Great seeing 1970's TV again, the old cars, great locations, amusing storylines.

Why can't they make shows like this anymore.

Only remembering the titles when a child, usually as I was sent off to bed, it was great to see this one. The chemistry between Rock Hudson and Susan Saint James is great, although the kissing between them is alittle strained as you can imagine. Susan, as the wife is quite frankly barking but frankly makes the show. The bike chase through the streets of San Fransciso, low key compared to Bullitt, with Hudson quite obviously doing some of his own stunts is terrific in the pilot episode. Rene Auberjonois makes an early appearance, best known as Odo in Deep Space Nine,John Schuck who played the robot in Holmes and Yoyo and ofcourse Jack Albertson, grandad from Willy Wonka (1971). A must see recommended for all those retro's out there.

This show, made in the early '70's, retains the innocence, sometimes silliness, of '60's tv series before the advent of the grittier, more realistic series of the 1970's. The storylines are simplistic and sometimes a little illogical but the actors do a fine job and if, like me, you have fond memories of this programme from childhood, then you won't mind overlooking the sometimes poor scripts and dodgy '70's fashions. Worth a look.
