After flexing his dramatic muscles with The Truman Show and Man on the Moon, Jim Carrey is reunited with gross-out directorial brothers Bobby and Peter Farrelly, with whom he worked on Dumb and Dumber. As Charlie, a Rhode Island state trooper, he's a sweet-hearted loser who falls in love with Irene (Renée Zellweger), even though he's lumbered with three delightful grown-up black sons from his wife's adulterous liaison. Unfortunately, his vicious alter-ego Hank has also fallen for her — and schizophrenia has never been so comically painful as when Jekyll wrestles with Hyde for Irene's affections. As usual, the jokes are well below the limbo-line of taste — a chicken stuffed up the backside provokes gasps instead of giggles — but the movie delivers its vulgarity with almost surreal panache. Sadly though, the versatile Carrey looks to be trapped on the humour treadmill.

  • Fans of Jim Carrey at his most manic will enjoy his mugging in this tasteless, episodic comedy; others will do well to stay as far away as possible.

    Biased

I love this film. I fully understand people who don't like this type of movie, or Jim Carey for that matter, but regardless of personal taste issues, here we are seeing a true comic genius at work and these guys don't come along all that often.

It's just amazing how many facial tics and bizzare physical manifestations he is capable of creating and all of them are by degrees amusing or hysterical.

I'm biased I love this film and I love Jim Careys work. If nothing else watch this film for the 'cotton mouth' sequence.

A awful film with the same old Mr Carey. Nothing new here. This film is funny for the first 15 mins then becomes a totally boaring event. I lost count on the amount of times I yawned.

A typical Carey film with all the normal Carey Gags and "slap stick" humour?? if you can call it that.

    Avoid at all costs

    Mad-cap capers

This is a delightfully funny film on the quirky side of things.

Renee Zellweger pulls off a brilliant performance that actually gets her away from her usual sweet, but slightly silly characters. From an actor's point of view, her role in this is significant because her mannerisms are different, and it is a joy to watch her doing this.

Jim Carrey is his usual mad/genius self and you get what you would expect from him.

The soundtrack is great fun too, with plenty of rock songs as covers of Steely Dan material.

Very enjoyable and interesting presentation all round.

    Good Fun

I'm not a huge fan of Jim Carrey but I wanted to rent this film following good reviews from my friends. I was not disappointed. It is a well acted, funny film. A good film to watch when you are feeling a bit down, it will really cheer you up. Well worth a rental.

    hank evans for little girlsssssssss

sort of the same vein as something about mary, has plenty of crude jokes and laugh out loud moments, jim carrey is very good in this, can be too much for some people, still its better than most comedies you normallly see trying to copy this format, i liked it alot.

    Typical Jim Carrie-esque entertainment

If you like Jim Carrie's visual brand of humour, then you will enjoy this.

Carrie plays mild mannered Charlie as well as Hank, his alto ego. The 2 personalties are very similar to the 2 he played in the 'Mask'.

In fact, they are virtually identical now I come to think of it.

Enjoyable comedy, with a few laugh out loud bits, and a romantic theme.

    A must for Carrie fans

    Funny, not half

One of the funniest comedies i have ever seen. This must be the best ever performance by Jim Carey. Good choice of actors/actresses.
