Sam Spade meets Noel Coward
The plot is convoluted enough, there are plenty of wise cracks and characters in the story, the gumshoe is in the required seedy state and the femme is attractively fatale but there is something too English about it that makes it seem like a spoof of the genre. Derrick de Marney recites all his lines as if he is in a Noel Coward play with a world weariness of too much champagne at too many social gatherings and you expect Lady Bracknell to enter stage left at any moment. But it is enjoyablely fun and wwll worth a watch.
