Meet The Parents

MEET THE PARENTS stars Ben Stiller as the unfortunately named Greg Focker, a neurotic nurse intent on marrying his girlfriend, Pam (Teri Polo). But when the couple visits Pam's family home for her sister's wedding, he must first win the approval of her father, Jack (Robert De Niro), a protective ex-CIA agent. Before long, the awkward Greg and the suspicious Jack go head-to-head, resulting in hilarious scenes that feature a lie detector test, a suburban car chase, a toilet-trained cat, and a mean game of water volleyball. As the misunderstandings and mistakes reach an almost nightmarish peak, it seems as though Greg may never win over Pam's unflinching guardian.
Featuring the inspired pairing of Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller (and an excellent appearance by Owen Wilson), director Jay Roach's clever comedy exemplifies every man's worst fears about courtship. When things for Stiller's character get bad, they just continue to get worse, culminating in a ridiculously funny airport scene. In the tradition of ANNIE HALL and FLIRTING WITH DISASTER, MEET THE PARENTS is an intelligent yet slapstick comedy about the eccentricities of the American family.

In this comedy, a girl (Teri Polo) takes her potential groom (Ben Stiller) home to meet her parents. In the course of the weekend, he loses the cat, floods the garden and has his various weaknesses painfully exposed by her father, a former CIA operative. Given the set-up, this film from Austin Powers director Jay Roach could have been predictable and cliché-ridden, but the sheer class of the cast elevates it into something really special. Ben Stiller gives the unfortunate beau humanity and realism; Robert De Niro's gravitas makes “dad” an intimidating presence; and Blythe Danner is a suitably quirky prospect as the mother-in-law; though arguably it's the cat that steals the show. Ridiculously funny and somehow rather endearing, this is just the kind of fare to make the prospect of your own family festivities seem far less formidable.

    A modern classic comedy

I've seen this movie a few time but rented it because my boyfriend hadn't and I can honestly say this is one of my favourite comedies.

Ben Stiller is one of the funniest actors around and Robert De Niro is, as always, pure class.

The gags keep on coming and at times it's almost painful to watch as things seem to get worse and worse for Ben Stiller's character but it is pulled together beautifully at the end without becoming schmaltzy and losing it's edge.

If you want to rent a movie that is incredibly entertaining, funny and appeals to both sexes this is the one to go for
