Woody Allen mixes the tragic with the comic in Melinda And Melinda, a delightful, intelligent look at two versions of the same story.

Still the same old story...By bgarcez from United Kingdom , 03 Apr 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]They're rich, live in the best spots of Manhattan, go to nice restaurants and drink good wine on a regular basis, yet they manage to carry a bagfull of neurosis, phobias, suicidal tendencies and complexes.
It's Woody, once again, recycling himself.
If his intent was to balance a comical story with a tragical one, he's done it way better in Crimes and Misdemeanors. This one lacks that same bittersweet touch.
You've seen it all before. With the difference that there was a time in which you still laughed about the seductress that ends up to be a nutter or the husband that falls in love with the next door neighbour and so generates a series of would be laughable gags.
There was once a filmaker who managed to reinvent himself in each movie. I'm talking about the guy who made Zelig, Annie Hall and The Purple Rose of Cairo.
The author of Melinda and Melinda just looks like a pale imitation of the Woody from those days.

melinda A and melinda BBy a customer from birmingham , 03 Dec 2010so which do you prefer? -how do you see life?
as ever, good ol' Woody Allen loves nothing better than an existential chinwag about society and psychology... amusing to see Will Ferrell in the flighty flitty uncertain questioning wry part that Woody would normally have taken -difference in size was funny enough on its own. not really up there with the classic woody allen films -lacked the visual style and finesse, but amusing enough and kind of clever/interesting. worth a watch.

Very disappointingBy Oscilator (2 reviews) from London , 06 Nov 2010Mixing drama and comidy in a way that its not one nor the other. Very poor attempt. All too predictable and boring.
Good idea.By XmissXghoulscoutX (31 reviews) from Thetford , 26 Oct 2010The idea for the film was interesting but unfortunatly the plot was not. It was very slow and being a Will Ferrell fan i was let down with his part. He managed to depress me. The mood of the film was just depressing altogether. It's a shame such a good idea was ruined.
Melinda and MelindaBy a customer from Braintree , 01 May 2010What's not to like? An intriguing plot and good performances.
It's not going to set the world on fire but hey, I can think of worse ways to spend a rainy sunday afternoon!
Trouble sleeping, watch this film.By ChelseaC (19 reviews) from Brighton , 09 Mar 2010I thought this movie seemed promising but it was just dull. It had a clever concept but lacked structure. I'm writing this review a month after I saw this movie and I'd forgotten that i'd even seen it. In fact I remember falling a sleep twice whilst watching it, in the daytime.
