  • On the evidence of Marshall's film, the geishas are like highly trained birds kept in intricately woven bamboo cages; they are made temporarily fascinating by the skills of the film's true artists - its troika of fine leading actresses...

  • The exquisite Ms. Gong looks like a gift that keeps on giving when trussed up in silk, but she and the film come most alive when her hair tumbles down and she sashays about the okiya, stirring the air with her tremulous rage.

    Wow! Brilliant

Well, this was a surprise. Brilliant and riveting throughout. Very sad, poignant, but a beautiful and of course, romantic ending.

Thought would be a total chick flick initially, but enjoyed by the family, male and female alike. Would watch again, rare for me, as I don't like to do this unless the film is outstanding.

Gave a very good insight into a life maybe as a Westerner you think you already know about, not.

If you want something different and little more grown up go for this one!
