  • Disappointing

    [Highly rated reviewer]

Not a very deep insight into his life, this documentary mostly consists of lengthy fixed camera interviews that are incredibly dull. Exaggeration and dumbfoundedness on the part of those talking gets annoying after about 10 minutes.

There are far better things to watch or read if you're interested in Bruce Lee.

Poor quality clips interspersed with pretty dull interview footage makes this an uniteresting documentary. Doesn't really give any sense of what Bruce Lee inspired in so many.

A very personal tribute to bruce from people who knew him well and who were inspired by his character. A little short though.

While I can't 100% disagree with the previous reviewer's summation of 'Memories of Bruce Lee', there really are some genuinely interesting and insightful moments in this 70-minute documentary, even if its low production values and lack of any real cohesiveness do ultimately serve to disappoint.

Comprised largely of interviews with former friends and co-stars, 'Memories of Bruce Lee' is principally about people telling stories about their time with Lee. Thankfully, most of these stories are at least fun to listen to, although there's really nothing here that you haven't heard before if you have a vested interest in Lee and his legacy.

Perhaps the biggest problem with the documentary is that it feels rather dry and slow. The inclusion of some narration and perhaps some background music might have helped to provide some energy. Several clips from Lee's most notable films are also dropped in at various points and those are always fun to watch, although these clips become longer as the documentary nears its end; possibly as a result of the filmmakers not having enough usable interview footage, which does make the film feel padded out and, at times, lazy.

As a long-time Lee fan, I enjoyed some of the stories here. 'Memories of Bruce Lee' is nowhere near being a definitive documentary, but that doesn't mean that hardcore Lee fans shouldn't check it out. It's most certainly enjoyable enough as another reminder of Lee's immense skill and legacy as one of the great heroes of Asian cinema and, because of that, is worth a watch.
