Memories of Matsuko chronicles the life of Matsuko, a women who desperately wants to be loved, no matter what it costs. The film starts from the point of view of her nephew, who does not know she exists until he is informed that she has been found dead. His father asks him to clean up the dead woman's extremely messy apartment, and he learns more and more of the life of Matsuko as the film progresses. Part comedy, part musical, part tragedy, this film is visually stunning, with harsh images sugar coated by soft, gentle music.
While weak in areas, it's overall a great film, with a strong performance by the lead character. Definitely worth watching.
lush, vivid, and sad - highly watchable
Great central performance
Poignant or mushy ending according to point of view
Highly recommended
