    Prepare to be awed !!!

Once in a while, a film comes along that defies all the expectations of it's genre. In the eighties it was Die Hard, Bruce Willis' shot in the arm for action cinema. In the nineties, John Woo wowed us with the magnificent Face Off. Now, here in the noughties, Steven Segal brings us the incredible Mercenary For Justice.

Never has a film exceeded every expectation you could expect than this masterclass of acting, action and story. Segal's John Seeger is a complex, war weary man. His freindships forged from the blood and bullets world of the military. In this film when one of his men goes down, you feel the pain as surely as if it were your own. Segal's abilty to emote pain and suffering from a mere facial expression has never been more genuine or indeed moving. Upon the untimely demise of his radio operator, i found myself close to tears.

Segal has also studied his peers and learnt well. We saw De Niro do it for Raging Bull, we saw Clooney do it for Syriana more recently. But this man takes it one step further, Seeger's obvious ( unmentioned ) medical condition which means he simply ' puts on weight ' is starkly shown by Segal's physical appearance. A brave move for this movie tough guy, but it just shows you how determined the man is to show every flaw and weakness in his character's make up.

The rest of the cast are firing on all cylinders, most notably Luke Goss as the CIA bad guy. Indeed, the ensemble cast of Oscar winner 'Crash' must be heaving a combined sigh of relief that this movie was released after the January deadline.

If Segal continues to produce films of this calibre it's only a matter of time before he stands on the podium collecting his golden statue, this film is a triumph in every sense of the word !

Sad. Pathetic. Past it. Just go away and stay there.

I was told before I rented this movie that it was Segal’s best since Exit Wounds. Well that maybe the case as since Exit Wounds they have truly been shocking but ‘best’ is really not a term that should be used in regards to this film. An awful movie from a star who was once a legend in his genre and is now a sad, fat, old pathetic loser who needs to get out of the movie industry sharpish. You have disappointed me yet again Steven. Shame on you.
