Weak script lets down solid production

Effect are OK and haven't aged badly, and there's a diverse and reasonably strong cast.
Unfortunately none of this saves a weak script that fails to justify a poor ending in which the resolution happens because... because... well because the scriptwriter suddenly says so. The actions of the characters don't actually make any difference to the plot.
Better than the abominable rewrite of Earthsea though.
