I'd heard about this... It's true - it's as bad as they say it is, and then some. It does serve one very useful purpose, though - it proves that Ed Wood isn't really the worst director ever! The thing is, this is very, very like an Ed Wood movie - except that it's no fun at all.

By rights it should be. It's a load of cheap nonsense about several people who can't act falling into the clutches of some other people who are worse actors than they are (now THAT's scary!), led by a mad scientist played by Jackie Coogan, who visibly wishes he was somewhere else, or possibly dead. It's got several Ed Wood regulars in bit parts, including his second wife; it's got one of those characteristic ultra-portentous yet completely irrelevant voiceovers that Criswell did so... er, not well, exactly, but certainly with conviction. It's even got the same soundtrack as Ed Wood's 'Jailbait' - one of the most annoying pieces of music ever written. let alone featured in TWO films!

It's so like an Ed Wood movie that for many years a lot of people assumed that the utterly obscure Herbert Tevos, a director whose name appears on the credits of no other film in any capacity whatsoever, was in fact Ed Wood avoiding the tax man with a pseudonym. Apparently it wasn't - Mr. Tevos was just some bloke who tried to make a movie because he didn't think it could possibly be all that hard.

Guys and gals, please be aware that there is a difference beween so-bad-it's-good and so-bad-it-just-plain-sucks! This is not an evening's entertainment on ANY level; it's just a bad movie. It's boring, lifeless, and almost as dismal an experience to watch as, judging by the actors' expressions, it was to be in. Even the scenes of people being attacked by a crude puppet purporting to be a terrifying giant spider are so ineptly and listlessly shot as not to be funny, which takes some doing! Yeah, yeah, I know - it's supposed to have sexy homicidal tarantula women doing exotic dances and so forth. Well, technically it does, but believe me, even that somehow manages to fall totally flat. Trust me - avoid this gobbler like... well, like a mesa of lost women...
