Ridiculous

This film is a little bit like the A-team meets Bonny and Clyde with out any of the entertainment of either. Its a poorly constructed series of proposterous events, that bored me to tears.
If you are a devout nihilist who watches Top Gear, the fact it is in French will probably satisfy a cultural desire. Beyond this don't bother.- Was this review helpful to you?

Vincent Cassel excels in the lead role, the story is gripping from start to finish, it's wonderfully shot and is well directed.
True crime story, historically interesting, action packed, full of suspense, comic and tragic with some love thrown in - highly recommended!- Was this review helpful to you?

Frog Nutter!

Period French gangster story spanning 2 decades.
By thesav (16 reviews) from Southport , 04 Nov 2011This is a compelling film that traces the career of Jacques Mesrine, from Legionnaire to France's Public Enemy Number One. He is shown full of flaws, yet trying to abide by his own - somewhat twisted - personal code of honour. The cinematography is superb, which, along with the costumes, delivers an excellent feel for the periods portrayed. Performances are top notch, with Cassel giving us another of his misunderstood-bad-guy turns that he manages so well. It is violent, and women are portrayed as fleshy accoutrements, but this is perhaps a reflection of the times in which the story takes place, as is the casual racism. The latter two, do give the film a degree of discomfort that sits uneasily with the viewer. That said, it is a long, energetic ride that will keep you going.
And for those who don't know - it is in French, with subtitles. It is difficult to understand why others have given it a poor rating because it is in French with subtitles. It's a bit like saying Citizen Kane was no good because it is in black and white.- Was this review helpful to you?
